My best friends and I have been trying to buy the majority of our home goods and clothes at resale and second hand/thrift shops since around January. I have also been trying to find ways to reuse items in our home versus tossing them out or recycling them. Farmer J has always been one to put used up jelly jars (purchased jelly) through the dishwasher and keep them for future canning needs. In the above picture you can see how he used a jelly jar to can homemade pickles. I have been using other random jars to store food (instead of using plastic containers). The almonds I need for my cherry almond crisp fit in this old cherry jelly container perfectly.
I found these old metal cups at a garage sale. I bought six of them. They are perfect for the boys as I wanted to get rid of all their plastic cups anyway. These cups won't break if they drop them on the floor and they are the perfect size for a child. The metal keeps the drinks really cold which works so well for hot days or when dunking cookies in milk!
My brother had two of these beautiful orange/red Le Creuset dutch ovens at his cabin. I sweet talked him into giving me one! We are slowly trying to change over all our cookware to cast iron. And thank heaven for little boys, Pickle washed and rinsed (over and over) these dishes for me. And it only took him thirty minutes! Do you remember when you last thought washing dishes by hand was a special treat? I must say, I enjoy washing dishes much more when I'm entertained by watching chickens, goats, sheep and little humans play outside my kitchen window!
