Our boys watch bits and pieces of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies (mainly, the parts that take place in "the Shire...and have heard the books read out loud to them since infancy. Farmer J and I often refer to the boys (Farmer J included) as "hobbits". Reasoning: they love to run around barefoot, they love the outdoors, they love first (and second) breakfast... and I could go on and on! The boys (with help from their cousins) made this shelter, small enough for a wee hobbit, on the beach of the great lake! It's amazing what children can do when adults get out of the way! And it's amazing how long they can "work" on a project when intrinsically motivated!
Uncle B did help a little bit when cutting down a few branches that they could turn into "shingles" and "carpet".
The "shingles" really did add some coziness and warmth to the home! (refer to the final product in the first picture on the post).
