One sad goat...and farmer

Padrig's horn was pulling away from his head and causing him obvious pain. When Farmer J tried to evaluate the situation, Padraig literally screamed out in agony! He was holding his head to the side to try and alleviate the discomfort.

Farmer J knew it was time to bring in the country vet!

Thankfully, this country doc (who originally hails from Nebraska) came to help... and only hours after we called.

The patient was not pleased and literally shaking in his fur!

Doc said he needed to give Padraig Lidocaine to numb the area and then clip off the horn (picture a very large toenail clippers).

Padraig did NOT like the Lidocaine shots. I HAVE NEVER heard anything like a goat in pain! The doc assured us that goats are known, in the farm vet circle, as being big wimps and VERY dramatic... which made us feel a little better! But really, it was quite a sight and the sounds he was making we're out of this world! I held the hooves, J held the goat and the doc did his work! JJ was the cameraman and even got some video footage!

Quickly, the horn was off and the vet was putting a powder on his wound to help dry up the blood.

Today, Padraig is much better but still not sure if he can ever trust Farmer J again...which is so sad, because yesterday, I could see just how much it was breaking his heart to see one of his animals suffer!

With some patience, extra goat chow and lots of love, Padraig will be back to his normal goat self in no time!
