Nesting Box Etiquette

This hen really wants to be a mama. She sits and sits and sits on her eggs. When I'm missing one chicken at evening chores, I most often find her in her nesting box...which is exactly what happened on this day.

But I didn't find just one chicken...but two!  The black speckled hen was literally sitting on Boots (our smaller, bantam hen)! I guess she didn't know the one hen per nesting box rule of etiquette.

Also, on this same day, this guy was hiding in the coop rafters!

I locked the raccoon in with the hens! Thankfully, he only ate the eggs and didn't get any birds!

He has been spotted around the coop during the day now as well, and not just at dusk or night time! We put the hens "to bed" much earlier and always check the coop for a hiding raccoon before locking up!
