Saturday Morning Chores

I used my Norwex basic package to clean my kitchen windows... With just water!

The view is that much nicer when the windows are clean!

I'm cleaning my Norwex make up removal cloth by boiling the cloth for 15 minutes!

Drain.

And rinse. Now my cloth is clean and ready...but I'm certain today is a no makeup day!

Farmer J left this reminder for all of us this morning on the kitchen table!

It's hard to not be happy when this is what you see out your window minutes before you pull into your driveway!

Lilies of the Valley

These beautiful flowers are always in bloom around my birthday. They smell heavenly and I love their delicate look.

Luckily, lilies of the valley grow in a few different places on the farm!  I'm picking them and putting them in vases all over the house!

As I type this, while sitting in my rocker on my front porch, I smell the lilies that grow by the road with every strong gust of wind. Just lovely!

Smart Chickens????

Well at least sometimes...

Here's our hens huddled by our front door to stay dry and keep out of the rain!

Ahhhh.... the many 1st of summer all happening on Memorial Day Weekend!

"1st"s of the summer:

1.) I Mowed the lawn this weekend for the first time.  We have been able to buy a little time on this one due to the long winter/cold spring and our numerous "al naturale" lawn mowers (i.e., Aoife, Beatrix, Ciaran and Padraig... and of course the baby lambs).  Over time, Farmer J has gotten the sheep used to wearing a collar and being on a long lease so we can graze them on the yard.  The baby lambs stay close by their mamas so they don't need to be on a lease... yet!  The goats stay by us!  And who needs nasty weed removal chemicals when you have goats... they love dandelions!  Such a win-win, the animals get more grazing pasture and we have less to mow.  The only downside... our "al naturale" lawn mowers are not potty trained.  But... we don't have to buy fertilizer for the grass!  Just watch where you step...

2.) Sun burn for the first time.  I should know better.  Today I got to celebrate my upcoming birthday with one of my bestie girlfriends! We garage sale'd and ate lunch outside! Who knew that little bit of sun would turn my shoulders pink.  But... should I really be surprised- these shoulders haven't seen sun like today's sunlight since last September!

3.) Arnold Palmer in hand! Those of you who know me know that I LOVE sweet tea and Arnold Palmers (1/2 lemonade; 1/2 iced tea). Got an Arnie for lunch today!  Ahhhhhh.  I'm looking forward to sipping some sweet tea while rocking in my rocking chair on Memorial Day!

4.) Chicken round-up! The chickens do not like going in their coop when it's still light out... but I don't want them to get munched up by Mr. Raccoon (who seems to be no longer a nocturnal animal). So... trying to get them into the coop last night was a family affair.  Unfortunately, the boys let out 5 chickens when they were trying to get the last remaining chicken in the door!  Farmer Mama to the rescue.  I do this clapping noise along with a loud "Baaaaaabies" and they come running.  Even the chickens know to listen to their mama (of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm the one most often feeding them.)

5.) Fishing at the nearby lake.  We live very close to three, nice lakes.  J and the boys went fishing off Mr. Jim and Miss Mary's pier.  They almost caught "the big one."  Luckily, they got to stay for a yummy lunch.  Thanks Mr. Jim and Miss Mary! Also- thank you for moving the brush pile by the barn!

6.) Ice Cream/Movie night.  We found a new spot for de-lish ice cream!  We all split a turtle banana split!  Yum! Now the boys are watching "Star Wars" for the first time.  I had a big brother growing up so I'm passing on the Star Wars movie-- but can hear many Chewbacca and lightsaber noises from downstairs!

7.) Run through the sprinkler (a.k.a., the hose with an attached spray nozzle).  All mama's know how to multi-task.  I was able to take turns watering some flowers, spraying off the ant piles on the walkway, spraying off the chicken poo on the front porch AND spraying off two little boys running through the front yard in their swimming trunks!

8.) Garage sale (in warm weather).  I LOVE to rummage.  So... I have been garage sale'ing for at least a month now but today I got to not only do it with a bestie BUT in warm weather!  My bestie's and I are trying to only buy clothes (for our whole families) and household decor items second hand (i.e., garage sales, thrift shops, Craigslist, etc.)  We popped some major tags today!  I got a pair of brand new, North Face snow pants for JJ for next year for dirt cheap at a garage sale today.  My bestie got a few antiques, a funky lamp and lampshade and a cute Pottery Barn rolling basket.  If I was just a wee bit smaller, I could have scored some amazing high end jeans.  When you need something new, consider buying second hand-- it's great for the pocket book and for the environment.

Nesting Box Etiquette

This hen really wants to be a mama. She sits and sits and sits on her eggs. When I'm missing one chicken at evening chores, I most often find her in her nesting box...which is exactly what happened on this day.

But I didn't find just one chicken...but two!  The black speckled hen was literally sitting on Boots (our smaller, bantam hen)! I guess she didn't know the one hen per nesting box rule of etiquette.

Also, on this same day, this guy was hiding in the coop rafters!

I locked the raccoon in with the hens! Thankfully, he only ate the eggs and didn't get any birds!

He has been spotted around the coop during the day now as well, and not just at dusk or night time! We put the hens "to bed" much earlier and always check the coop for a hiding raccoon before locking up!

Morels are finally here!

Here is a morel, in JJ's hand (for perspective on size)!  Picked
this last week.

Here JJ is picking the above morel.  Farmer J taught him how
to pick the morel without hurting the underground "fungal system".

Morels are, at first, hard to find but after you find one or two,
you start seeing them all over.

Farmer J put these blue (and yellow) flags near where he picked
morel mushrooms last year to help find them easier this year.
It worked.  Three mushrooms popped up just left of the flag.

Quite the hunter/gatherer meal for the boys.  They had morel and
pheasantback mushrooms and some venison sausage from Mr.
Chuck.

A closer look...

A few pictures...

Farmer J's garden at dusk!

Our littlest shepherd checking on his herd!

Beatrix (and twins) post shearing!

Aoife after her springtime haircut!

Goat crunch! The sheep and goats love this stuff! We get it at a local feed mill! The molasses coats the grain and gives it a sweet taste!

Supper time! Early evening chores are so much more enjoyable now that the weather is nicer!

Happy Monday!

It's "gloomy" out today (per Pickle) but it's warm and we have daffodils...so life is pretty good!

Happy Mother's Day

A few great quotes about mamas!

-Mothers are all slightly insane. -J.D. Salinger

-There are few things more powerful than the prayers of a mother. -Boyd Packer

-Mother's love is peace; it need not be acquired; it need not be deserved. -Erich Fromm

-The most important thing a father can do for his children is love their mother. -Theodore Hesburgh

-Whatever else is unsure in this stinking dunghill of a world a mother's love is not.- James Joyce (gotta love the Irish)

Happy Mother's Day to you all!

From my front porch to yours...

To all the lovely ladies who purchased some Norwex products through my first online party...look what arrived today! Finding a Norwex box on my front porch is always so fun!

But more fun is opening up the box to get my own goodies and see what my guests love and wanted!

As I'm still relatively new to Norwex, I got some products I've never tried before!

My Norwex savvy friend Amanda loves these mesh dishcloths! I'm sure I will too!

I can't wait to try the Norwex dish soap! I'll use this to gently clean my Norwex mop cloths, after washing my floors with just water, to save on some laundry!

I got lots of other fun cloths and personal and cleaning products that I'll share another day!

If you want to receive a Norwex box at your house, I'd be happy to help you host a party or with ordering online! Text me at 262-402-2286

Sweet, sweet boys

Being a mama of boys warms my heart!

All on his own, my youngest picked me this flower!

There is nothing better than receiving a specially picked flower from a child!

Minutes later, my oldest son made me this...

A mix of flower arrangements, a dessert of bananas and whip cream and "mom" spelled out in forks...with some "gems" and special rocks for a splash of color!

Don't you love the spoon he choose for his light and delicate dessert!

And who needs a vase when you have rocks!

I'm excited for Mother's Day, but honestly, my boys and husband make me feel loved and blessed pretty much every day!
