Canning season

We have been so busy with canning or "home preserving" over the last few weeks that my blog entries have suffered! So sorry.  Pickle and Farmer J's birthdays and getting a new vehicle (our minivan/"wannabe farm truck" is on its last leg) have also been front and center! And then there are these things called "school", "work" and "parenting!"

Just today, we had friends pop over to pick pears off the pear trees as we may keel over if we have to can another apple, pear or tomato! And by "we", I mean, Farmer J does 99% of the picking, cutting and canning and I do 99% of the cleaning up...which I will say is not a fun task. Very sticky, messy business, canning!

My counters have looked close to this for the past week!

Bartlett pears with nutmeg in a simple syrup!

And lots and lots of applesauce!

These lucky pigs get to eat this...

And this...

Happy pigs! And I love no waste or need to compost!

After a busy harvest, a nice swing in the hammock!

Wishing you all a restful, lazy, Sunday afternoon!

Taking a break...

in between helping their Dada (aka, farmer J) can tomatoes as well as pear/applesauce...

Canning pictures will be posted as soon as we are done :)

Hope your Sunday had a few moments of complete contentment.

Harvest time

I see a lot of pear and apple sauce in my future! And the fruit that is too far gone for human consumption, well, that's where the pigs come in, folks!
