Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.

Manure is in the air

Spring has sprung! The manure is being spread on the farm fields all around us.  The birds are chirping. The frogs are croaking. The little one is playing soccer and the big one is hitting baseballs. Farmer J is planting prairie plants in our front yard and I hear his "Weed Dragon" torching non-native plants and weeds, on and off throughout the day. Our first batch of chickens and our bees arrive this week. The pigs come in the beginning of May, just in time for Farmer J and my 20 year anniversary of being together! Nothing says, "I love you" like getting pigs and electric fencing!

This weekend, with all the beautiful, sunny, warm weather...we did some brush burning, prairie planting, started mucking out the chicken coop, started prep work on the pig pasture, collected eggs, moved the chickens to the new chicken area (where they can't escape and poop all over our driveway and garage) and threw in a few baseball and basketball games!

And while we did all this, the cats slept and our turkey, Norman/Norma chirped and followed us around!

Guess who ...

will no longer be our turkey dinner!

Farmer J said this little turkey is officially a pet! Now we just need to come up with a name! And a gender neutral name as we still dont know it's gender!

We are in love...

with our turkey. Sadly, we lost one of our turkey chicks late this week. We called all over and could not find another baby turkey to replace our recently deceased one. Our remaining chick was lonely and sad. From our front porch, all we heard was anxious chirping. Farmer J spent more and more time with the baby chick, and the chick imprinted on J. "Are you my mama?!"

The chick follows J all around the farm.

The chick cuddles with me in the kitchen! (The cloth prevents a potential poop accident getting on our clothes.)

The chick lays on JJ while he builds up his Minecraft world.

This initial "meat bird" is getting more like a pet with every passing minute it cuddles on our lap.

The chick even sits on Farmer J's shoulder as he walks around the house!

Eventually, when the chick gets older, and the weather gets warmer, the little turkey will live outside. Until then, we are enjoying our time with the baby chick in our house!

PS: Lots of proper hand hygiene will ensure we don't get salmonella from our fuzzy bird friend!

Another fridge favorite...

The plans for the $40 pig arc!

And if you want to see Farmer J's pig guru, check on the link below!

Lastly, some updated turkey pictures!

It looks like the turkey is being interrogated! Hard to get a good picture of a turkey when you are the turkey holder and camera crew, all in one!

They are getting much bigger! Soon, they will fly right out of their plastic "coop!"

And just like that...

It's gone. That's spring weather for you!

This is the view of the orchard from our window seat in the dining room!

Trinity and I are watching the clouds roll by on a lazy, Saturday afternoon!

April 2nd....

SNOW!

This is the view outside our kitchen window!
